Ron Binyamin was an avid cyclist, sharing with many of us the profound love for biking.

On the morning of October 7th, Ron (53) was ready with his mountain bike to explore the trails near Kibbutz Beeri.

However, his journey was abruptly halted by a barrage of missiles, and terrorists soon stormed the area. In a frantic attempt to escape, he called his daughter and left a voice message: “I hope I will be okay.”

But yesterday brought devastating news. Ron’s body was discovered in Gaza and returned for burial. It appears he was killed that very morning.

For more than seven months, his daughter Shay and his wife Ayelet clung to the hope of seeing him again. When the Israeli cycling community gathered at the Tel Aviv Velodrome as part of the global event initiated by team IPT to call for the release of Ron and the other 131 kidnapped, Ayelet spoke about the comfort that hope gave her. “Please raise your voice,” she implored. “The voice of Ron and the others kidnapped cannot be heard from the tunnels.”

As we mourn Ron, the ninth Israeli cyclist killed on that tragic day, October 7th, this plea for release still echoes for those languishing in the darkness of captivity.
