The first mountain finish awaited the peloton on the second day of the Giro d'Italia. The route took the riders from San Francesco al Campo to the pilgrimage church of Oropa, with around 2,000 meters of climbing spread over the last 70 km. After no one was able to follow Pogačar's decisive attack around 4.5km before the finish, a battle for second place erupted behind him. Florian Lipowitz, who rode together with Daniel Martínez in a 15-man chasing group, set the pace for his Colombian teammate well. Die erste Bergankunft erwartete die Fahrer bereits am zweiten Tag der Italien Rundfahrt. Von San Francesco al Campo ging es bis zur Wallfahrtskirche von Oropa wobei sich rund 2.000 Höhenmeter auf die letzten 70km verteilten. Nachdem niemand dem entscheidenden Angriff von Pogačar rund 4,5km vor dem Ziel folgen konnte, entbrannte dahinter ein Kampf um den zweiten Platz. Florian Lipowitz, der gemeinsam mit Daniel Martinez in einer 15-köpfigen Verfolgergruppe fuhr, setzte das Tempo für seinen kolumbianischen Teamkollegen. Am Ende erreichte Dani das Ziel als starker Zweiter, 27 Sekunden hinter dem Tagessieger Pogačar, und verbesserte sich damit auf den dritten Platz in der Gesamtwertung. Nachdem die U19-Mannschaft des WorldTeams BORA - hansgrohe im April gleich mehrere international hochkarätige Siege und Podiumsplatzierungen einfahren konnte, setzten die Fahrer ihren guten Lauf zuletzt weiter fort. Sowohl bei der Friedensfahrt der Junioren als auch beim Mountainbike-Weltcup der U19 in Deutschland holte man in den vergangenen Tagen Top-Platzierungen. Das Besondere: Die Rennen wurden von den Fahrern in den Trikots ihrer jeweiligen Nationalmannschaften bestritten.Ähnlich wie in anderen Sportarten ist es auch im Junioren-Radsport üblich, dass die Athleten regelmäßig Einsätze mit ihren Nationalteams absolvieren. So auch in der vergangenen Woche, als insgesamt fünf GRENKE - Auto Eder Fahrer bei der Friedensfahrt der Junioren (Course de la Paix Juniors) am Start standen. Die erfolgreiche Ausbeute: Kryštof Král (Tschechien) holte einen Tagessieg. Paul Fietzke (Deutschland) schaffte es zudem auf Rang sieben in der Gesamtwertung des hochkarätig besetzten Etappenrennens.Am Wochenende zuvor war es wiederum Anatol Friedl (Österreich), der für Furore sorgte. Er wurde bei der UCI XCO Junior Series im Mountainbiken im baden-württembergischen Heubach Zweiter – und deutete damit ebenfalls sein großes Talent an. Der nächste Einsatz der Teamfahrer im Trikot von GRENKE - Auto Eder steht nun am 19. The Italian Grand Tour kicked off with a 140 km stage from Venaria Reale to Turin. On the relatively short route, the peloton had to take on two longer climbs, before a short but very steep ramp awaited in the finale.Maximilian Schachmann demonstrated his strength and tactical skill today to be present in the decisive moments of the race.On the final climb, Tadej Pogačar launched a determined attack, which was followed only by Jhonathan Narváez. Maximilian, who had previously initiated an attack and had gained a slight advantage, managed to follow the duo. He reached the summit just a few seconds behind Pogacar and Narvaez, who were then slightly hesitating to set the pace. I know that him and Narváez are both fast and can be really explosive, so I knew it wouldn't necessarily be easy. Four weeks after his <a href="https://www.bora-hansgrohe.com/en/news/lennard-en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">serious training accident</a>, Lennard Kämna can leave the hospital in Tenerife. The 27-year-old will be flown to Hamburg today. There his injuries will be further treated by the doctors of the BORA - hansgrohe medical department and he can start his rehabilitation at the BG Klinikum.&nbsp;On April 3, Lennard Kämna suffered numerous injuries, especially to his chest, in an accident during a training camp in preparation for the Giro d'Italia. He underwent successful surgery last week in Tenerife.&nbsp;Lennard Kämna<blockquote>"Thank you for all the support over the past few weeks. I would especially like to thank my girlfriend and my family who have done everything to make me feel as comfortable as possible. It has not been an easy time at the University Hospital in Tenerife, but I am very grateful to the medical team and nurses for what they have done for me over the past few weeks. I am overjoyed that the first step of my recovery has been completed today and that I can now move on to Hamburg: I will start my rehab there and I am highly motivated to get back on the bike as soon as possible. But the most important thing is to get healthy again."</blockquote>

Vier Wochen nach seinem <a href="https://www.bora-hansgrohe.com/de/news/lennard-de" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">schweren Trainingsunfall</a> kann Lennard Kämna das Krankenhaus auf Teneriffa verlassen. Der 27-Jährige wird heute nach Hamburg ausgeflogen. Dort werden seine Verletzungen von den Ärzten des BORA - hansgrohe Medical Department weiter behandelt. Als nächsten Schritt seiner Genesung wird er im BG Klinikum eine Reha antreten.&nbsp;Am 3. April hatte sich Lennard Kämna während eines Trainingslagers zur Vorbereitung auf den Giro d'Italia bei einem Unfall zahlreiche Verletzungen vor allem im Brustbereich zugezogen. Auf Teneriffa wurde er in der vergangenen Woche erfolgreich operiert.&nbsp;Lennard Kämna<blockquote>"Danke für die so große Unterstützung in den vergangenen Wochen. Ganz besonders bedanken möchte ich mich bei meiner Freundin und meiner Familie, die alles gegeben haben, dass es mir gerade so gut wie möglich geht. Es war keine einfache Zeit in der Universitätsklinik auf Teneriffa, aber ich bin dem Ärzteteam und den Pflegern sehr dankbar für das, was sie in den vergangenen Wochen hier für mich geleistet haben. Ich bin überglücklich, dass heute der erste Schritt meiner Genesung abgeschlossen ist, und dass es nun in Hamburg weitergeht: ich werde dort meine Reha beginnen und bin hoch motiviert, so schnell wie es eben geht, wieder aufs Rad zu kommen. Das Wichtigste ist aber, wieder komplett gesund zu werden."</blockquote>
