It’s 8am on a Wednesday at the end of February near Siena. With pouring rain outside the hotel, BORA - hansgrohe Sports Director Enrico Gasparotto decides to have another espresso and postpones the departure for training by an hour, the rain should subside by then.Lennard Kämna, Daniel Felipe Martínez, mechanic Mario Lexmüller and Enrico Gasparotto travelled to Tuscany a few days ahead of Strade Bianche. The reason being that the infamous the white gravel roads of Tuscany feature in the Giro d'Italia this year. The 6th stage from Torre del Lago Puccini to Rapolano Terme offers a spectacle for fans with three sections on notorious gravel roads. We have to memorise not only the sectors and their characteristics, but also the kilometres before the gravel passages. The stage will certainly be very tough. In addition to good legs, you also need a bit of luck. A mechanical at the wrong moment can throw you out of the race for the general classification. You won't win the Giro on this stage, but you can definitely lose it - so I'm glad to have seen some of the sections. We will also make some adjustments to the bike set-up on this day. We won't need double handlebar tape or special saddles like we use for Paris-Roubaix here. Compared to our normal set-up, the biggest difference from a technical point of view will be the tire pressure. The balance between comfort, grip on the gravel and the best possible rolling characteristics on the asphalt is crucial. In general, tire pressure is in the range of 5-7 bar. Depending on the weight of the rider, the weather and the nature of the gravel, we then adjust the air pressure in the tires individually. After the route presentation of a Grand Tour, I firstly take a look at the entire course to get an overview. As I now know many of the roads in Italy very well, I then try to find out in detail where new sections have been added. We analyse these and then decide whether to carry out a recon, i.e. a route inspection, together with the riders. Gravel often causes chaos. We definitely want to avoid chaos ahead of the finale. The sectors are relatively short, but it will still be a pretty tough stage where a lot can happen. The key here is to stay focused and be prepared for all scenarios. Der Regen soll dann weniger werden.Lennard Kämna, Daniel Felipe Martínez, Mechaniker Mario Lexmüller und Enrico Gasparotto sind vor dem Klassiker Strade Bianche einige Tage früher in die Toskana gereist. Der Grund: die weißen Schotterstraßen der Toskana sind in diesem Jahr auch Teil des Giro d’Italia. Die 6. Etappe von Torre del Lago Puccini nach Rapolano Terme bietet mit drei Abschnitten auf den berüchtigten Schotterpisten ein Spektakel für die Fans. Für die Profis und deren Teams stellen die 11km Strade Bianche im Giro d’Italia eine Herausforderung dar - um am 9. Nicht nur die Sektoren und deren Beschaffenheit selbst, auch die Kilometer vor den Schotterpassagen müssen wir uns gut einprägen.&nbsp;Die Etappe wird mit Sicherheit sehr hart. Neben den Beinen braucht es auch eine Portion Glück. Ein Defekt im falschen Moment kann dich aus dem Rennen um die Gesamtwertung werfen. Du gewinnst den Giro nicht auf dieser Etappe, kannst ihn aber definitiv verlieren - daher bin ich froh, einige Abschnitte besichtigt zu haben.&nbsp;Auch das Bike Set-up werden wir an diesem Tag etwas anpassen. Wir haben jetzt Material getestet und Erfahrungen sammeln können.“&nbsp;<figure class="image image-style-align-center"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/AH_03548_23e217c56c.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;<figure class="image image-style-align-center"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/AH_03575_d8d90e4157.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Mario Lexmüller, Mechaniker:&nbsp;„Beim Recon können die Fahrer verschiedene Set-ups testen und uns Mechanikern dann direkt Rückmeldung zu Material und Reifendruck geben.&nbsp;Doppeltes Lenkerband oder spezielle Sättel, wie wir es für Paris-Roubaix verwenden, werden wir hier nicht benötigen. Im Vergleich zu unserem normalen Set-up wird aus technischer Sicht der Reifendruck an diesem Tag den größten Unterschied darstellen. Die Balance zwischen Komfort und Grip auf dem Schotter und bestmöglicher Rolleigenschaft auf dem Asphalt ist entscheidend. Generell bewegen wir uns beim Reifendruck im Bereich von 5-7 bar. Abhängig vom Gewicht des Fahrers, dem Wetter und der Beschaffenheit des Schotters passen wir den Luftdruck im Reifen dann individuell an. Nach der Streckenpräsentation einer Grand Tour sehe ich mir zuerst den gesamten Parcours an und bekomme so einen Überblick. Da ich viele Straßen in Italien mittlerweile sehr gut kenne, versuche ich dann im Detail herauszufinden, wo neue Abschnitte eingebaut wurden. Diese analysieren wir und entscheiden im Anschluss, ob wir zusammen mit den Fahrern einen Recon, also eine Streckenbesichtigung, durchführen. Speziell jene Etappen, die auf dem Papier nicht extrem schwer aussehen, können für Chaos und Überraschungen sorgen.“&nbsp;<figure class="image image-style-align-center"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/AH_03379_832aad84f9.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;&nbsp;„Für uns war es wichtig zu sehen, wie viel Einfluss die drei Schotterpassagen auf die gesamte Etappe und speziell auf das Finale haben können.“&nbsp;<figure class="image image-style-align-center"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/AH_03455_76a596a3d0.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;„Nach den Gravel-Abschnitten folgen im Finale die entscheidenden, kurzen Anstiege. Gravel sorgt oft für Chaos. Chaos wollen wir vor dem Finale definitiv vermeiden. Die Abschnitte sind relativ kurz, trotzdem wird es eine ziemlich harte Etappe, auf der viel passieren kann. Hier heißt es ganz klar: konzentrieren und auf alle Szenarien vorbereitet sein. Mai die Ziellinie sein. Für Lennard Kämna und Dani Martínez geht es an diesem Tag im Februar noch ein paar Kilometer weiter bis zu einem Hotel. Heiße Dusche, Mittagessen, Entspannung. In der Hotellobby schreibt Enrico Gasparotto Notizen nieder und markiert neuralgische Punkte der Strecke in der digitalen Etappen-Karte Veloviewer. Draußen begutachtet Mario Lexmüller die vom nassen Toskana-Schotter verdreckten Räder und prüft den Luftdruck.&nbsp;Hinter „Giro Gravel Recon“ kann ein Haken gesetzt werden. Giro Recon: Traversing the gravel roads of Tuscany to the Giro d'Italia

Six days of racing, divided up with Swiss precision: 2 time trials, 2 undulating stages, 2 mountain-top finishes. This is the demanding program of the 77th edition of the Tour de Romandie.&nbsp;The race kicked off with a prologue that was short on kilometers but full of curves. Roger Adria mastered the 2.3 kilometers through Payerne as the fastest rider from BORA - hansgrohe. He was half a second faster than Aleks Vlasov, who, together with Jai Hindley, is going into the stage race as the team's GC leader.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/sprintcyclingagency_0797342_1_2000px_4cc8a0d689.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Stage 1 promised a hilly day, which ended flat in Fribourg, but did not necessarily have to be a sprint decision. Almost all the teams in the peloton arrived without a clear sprinter. That's why BORA - hansgrohe put the peloton under pressure.&nbsp;Rolf Aldag:<blockquote>“We wanted to have a rider in the breakaway because the course was not clearly designed for a sprint. Gampi wanted to try, and he did. When the group was caught, Gampi attacked again. He realized that he still had the momentum and just went for it. That was strong!”</blockquote><figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/sprintcyclingagency_0797577_1_2000px_28969b4ce6.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;The two leaders Aleks Vlasov and Jai Hindley went into the first mountain-top finish on Thursday with a good starting position in the overall standings. With only a few seconds separating them, all the favorites are close together. The final climb to Salvan was set to sort the classification.&nbsp;Once again, BORA - hansgrohe started the stage in attack mode and placed a rider in the breakaway with Roger Adria. He was only caught in the last 3km by the chasing group - where the team was very present with Florian Lipowitz, Jai Hindley and Aleks Vlasov. Florian Lipowitz, <a href="https://www.bora-hansgrohe.com/news/jai-florian-en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">who has just extended his contract with BORA - hansgrohe</a>, went on a final attack and finished the day in 4th place. Aleks Vlasov followed in 6th place and jumped up to 8th place in the overall standings.<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/sprintcyclingagency_0798057_1_2000px_0177bed153.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;At the halfway point, BORA - hansgrohe leads the team classification of the WorldTour-race.&nbsp;Rolf Aldag's interim conclusion:<blockquote>“We're on target, but it's a surprising Tour de Romandie. Even after the first mountain-top finish, it's still a game of seconds. At the moment it looks like it won't be the mountains that decide the Tour, but the time trial and bonification seconds. Tomorrow's time trial is demanding and I assume that there will be a preliminary decision. We'll make sure that we put everything on the road tomorrow.”</blockquote>

Austragung der Tour de Romandie.&nbsp;Zum Auftakt gab es einen Prolog, der arm an Kilometern aber reich an Kurven war. Roger Adria meisterte die 2,3 Kilometer durch Payerne als schnellster Fahrer von BORA - hansgrohe. Etappe versprach einen hügeligen Tag, der zwar flach in Fribourg endete, aber nicht unbedingt eine Sprintentscheidung sein musste. Nahezu alle Teams im Peloton sind ohne klaren Sprinter angereist. Deswegen setzte BORA - hansgrohe das Feld unter Druck.&nbsp;Rolf Aldag:<blockquote>“Wir wollten einen Fahrer in der Ausreißergruppe haben, weil die Strecke nicht eindeutig für einen Sprint ausgelegt war. Gampi wollte es versuchen, und das tat er auch. Als die Gruppe eingeholt wurde, griff Gampi erneut an. Er hat gemerkt, dass er immer noch das Momentum hat und hat es einfach noch einmal probiert. The Tour of Turkey has traditionally been a favourable race for BORA - hansgrohe. The goal for this year’s edition (April 21st to 28th) is to further improve this record.One overall victory, a second place, and a total of seven stage wins – that’s the impressive record of BORA - hansgrohe in the last five editions of the Tour of Turkey. Die Türkei-Rundfahrt ist traditionell ein gutes Pflaster für BORA - hansgrohe. Das Ziel bei der diesjährigen Auflage (21. bis 28. The Irish newcomer celebrates his biggest success to date, giving Team GRENKE - Auto Eder another international top result.A stage victory, four days in the leader’s jersey, and ultimately a strong third place in the general classification – that’s the summary of Team GRENKE - Auto Eder’s performance at the stage race Eroica Juniores. The four-day event around Siena, Italy, is part of the UCI Nations Cup, the premier racing series in U19 cycling. Accordingly, the competition is traditionally strong. This year’s edition featured numerous national teams and some of the strongest European U19 teams.Team GRENKE - Auto Eder demonstrated its strength from the start. The BORA - hansgrohe U19 team decisively won the opening team time trial, taking the overall lead. In the following stages, Irish team rider Patrick Casey skilfully defended the red leader’s jersey and only lost it on the very last day. Der irische Neuzugang feiert seinen bis dato größten Erfolg – und beschert dem Team GRENKE - Auto Eder eine weitere internationale Top-Platzierung.Ein Etappensieg, vier Tage im Trikot des Gesamtführenden und am Ende ein starker dritter Platz in der Gesamtwertung – das ist die Bilanz des Team GRENKE - Auto Eder beim Etappenrennen Eroica Juniores. Die viertägige Rundfahrt in der Region rund um Siena ist Teil des UCI Nations Cup, der wichtigsten Rennserie im U19-Radsport. Dementsprechend stark ist das Rennen traditionell besetzt. Auch bei der diesjährigen Auflage standen zahlreiche Nationalmannschaften sowie einige der stärksten europäischen Junioren-Teams am Start.Das Team GRENKE - Auto Eder bewies dabei von Beginn an seine Stärke: So gewann das U19-Team von BORA - hansgrohe das Mannschaftszeitfahren zum Auftakt deutlich und übernahm damit die Gesamtführung. Im weiteren Verlauf war es der irische Teamfahrer Patrick Casey, der das rote Führungstrikot mit einer klugen Fahrweise verteidigte und erst am allerletzten Tag abgeben musste. Dennoch schaffte Casey mit Rang drei in der Gesamtwertung ein absolutes Top-Resultat. Besonders beeindruckend: Casey kam über das Nachwuchsprogramm „Red Bull Junior Brothers“ zum Team GRENKE - Auto Eder. Nun feierte er seinen bis dato größten internationalen Erfolg.Während die sportliche Bilanz des Team GRENKE - Auto Eder äußerst positiv ausfiel, musste man in Italien allerdings auch einige Rückschläge hinnehmen. Zahlreiche Stürze auf allen fünf Etappen sorgten dafür, dass viele Fahrer das Rennen mit Blessuren aufgeben mussten. Darunter befanden sich mit Paul Fietzke (Deutschland), Theodor August Clemmensen (Dänemark), Lorenzo Finn (Italien) und Thibaut Van Damme (Belgien) auch vier Athleten aus den Reihen von GRENKE - Auto Eder. Besonders bitter: Alle vier waren in ausgezeichneter Form, Fietzke hatte die Rundfahrt nach der ersten Etappe sogar angeführt.Das nächste Rennen für das Team GRENKE - Auto Eder ist nun der Grand Prix West Bohemia am 27. und 28. April im tschechischen Kyšice.&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Stimmen zum Rennen</h3>„Die letzte Etappe war sehr schwierig, und ich wurde ständig von anderen Fahrern angegriffen. Das machte es nahezu unmöglich, zu gewinnen. Trotzdem würde ich sagen, dass dies das größte Ergebnis meiner Karriere ist und hoffentlich etwas, auf dem ich in Zukunft aufbauen kann. Insgesamt bin ich mit dem dritten Platz sehr zufrieden.“&nbsp;– Patrick Casey„Wenn wir die Stürze ausklammern, war es aus sportlicher Sicht ein sehr gutes Rennen für uns. Patrick ist wirklich stark gefahren und hat das Optimum herausgeholt. Ein Podium auf Nations-Cup-Niveau zu holen, ist herausragend. Das gilt umso mehr, als dass Patrick einer der Gewinner der ersten Auflage unseres Scouting-Programms Red Bull Junior Brothers ist. Das zeigt, dass unser Nachwuchskonzept aufgeht.
