The Giro d'Italia and BORA – hansgrohe have a very special history. It's a story of many firsts:&nbsp;<h4 style="text-align:justify;">Premiere #1</h4>The Giro d'Italia was the first Grand Tour in the team's history. In 2012, the organiser’s decision was questioned by many, but in retrospect it was trend-setting and the beginning of a unique success story. On May 5th, the team entered uncharted territory: the start of a Grand Tour. With the new name BORA – hansgrohe, we came back to Italy in 2017. And it was quite a ritorno furioso! Lukas Pöstlberger rode to a stage victory on the very first stage of the 2017 Giro d'Italia.&nbsp;Once again, the Giro left its mark on our team history: The first Grand Tour stage win under our new name, on the very first Grand Tour race day under our new name. But this day shows that all good things indeed do come in threes. Because with the 2017 stage win, the team also took the first Grand Tour leader's jersey in its history. At the Giro d'Italia 2022, it was five years ago that the pink jersey bore the imprint of our two naming partners BORA and hansgrohe. It’s time for a comeback!&nbsp;Jai Hindley took the lead in the 2022 Giro d'Italia on the climb to Marmolada and never relinquished it until the final day. In addition to 32 stage victories, the team's GC results are also impressive: One victory, three top 5 and nine further top 10 results form part of its palmarès. But what is missing? A Grand Tour podium on the 2nd or 3rd step! At the 2019 Tour de France, only 25 seconds separated the team from the podium. To be second in the Giro - that's an outstanding result! For BORA – hansgrohe, because it's the second Grand Tour podium in the team's history (besides Jai's Giro win). And for you, because it's your first Grand Tour podium as well. Where do you see this success in your career? This being my first podium in a Grand Tour, I'm incredibly happy and satisfied with our achievement here. It's undoubtedly one of the highlights of my career so far. As a child, I always dreamt of standing on a podium or even winning a race of this magnitude. To have achieved this dream is truly special.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/1_3048a1ab34.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;How did you find your first Grand Tour with BORA – hansgrohe? The atmosphere in the team has been great. From the staff to the riders, everyone has given their best over the past three weeks. This collective effort and positive environment have been crucial in achieving our results. The camaraderie and support have made my first Grand Tour with the team a rewarding experience.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/2_ad713716c2.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;A long training block at home in Colombia marked your road to the Giro. We went into the race on the defensive, saying that a Top 5 result would be great. How confident were you about your form before the Giro started in Turin? I trained hard at home, focusing on the details to ensure I could perform at my best here at the Giro. Coming into the race, I was motivated and eager to showcase the results of my preparation. I believed that with the right strategy and determination, we could achieve something special.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/3_167777071e.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;You wasted no time in jumping onto the podium right on the second stage - and never lost that spot. When did you realise that this result would last until Rome? The Giro d'Italia can be unpredictable, and each day presents its own set of challenges. Even though I secured a podium spot early, I took nothing for granted. It wasn’t until I crossed the final finish line in Rome that I allowed myself to celebrate the accomplishment. Consistency was key, and we maintained our focus and determination throughout the race.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/4_8b3f9a51f3.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;If you must pick two moments out of the last weeks: What was your worst and your best Giro moment? The best moment for me was when I managed to gain time on the other GC contenders like Geraint Thomas. It was an affirmation of our strategy and my form. On the other hand, the worst moment was when I hit my shoulder. It was a challenge, but overcoming it was all the more satisfying.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/5_20338e9fb9.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Give us a little insight: Being on the podium for the entire Giro means that you have a lot of riders and teams chasing you. Does this situation give you extra motivation or more pressure? And how did you deal with it? I thrive on competition and it drives me to perform at my best. Knowing that several others are chasing us pushes me to maintain and elevate my performance every day. I focused on what I could control and used the competition as a source of motivation rather than pressure.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/6_f6398a0b99.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;You rode for an Italian team in the past, and speak Italian, do you have a connection to Italian racing and the fans? Did this provide you with extra motivation? Italy played a big role in my early career development, and I have a deep appreciation for Italian racing and the passionate fans. Speaking the language and having many friends here makes the experience even more special. Zweiter beim Giro zu werden - das ist ein herausragendes Ergebnis! Für BORA – hansgrohe, weil es erst das zweite Grand Tour-Podium in der Geschichte des Teams ist (neben dem Giro-Sieg von Jai). Und für dich, weil es auch dein erstes Grand Tour-Podium ist. Wo siehst du diesen Erfolg in deiner Karriere? Da dies mein erster Podiumsplatz bei einer Grand Tour ist, bin ich unglaublich glücklich und zufrieden mit unserer Leistung hier. Das ist zweifellos einer der Höhepunkte meiner bisherigen Karriere. Als Kind habe ich immer davon geträumt, einmal auf dem Podium zu stehen oder ein Rennen dieser Größenordnung zu gewinnen. Diese kollektive Anstrengung und das positive Umfeld waren ausschlaggebend für unsere Ergebnisse. Ich habe zu Hause hart trainiert und mich auf die Details konzentriert, damit ich beim Giro mein Bestes geben kann. Ich bin motiviert in das Rennen gegangen und konnte es kaum erwarten, die Ergebnisse meiner Vorbereitung zu präsentieren. Ich war überzeugt, dass wir mit der richtigen Strategie und Entschlossenheit etwas Besonderes erreichen können.<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/3_43cbc6b374.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Du hast gleich auf der zweiten Etappe den Sprung aufs Podium geschafft und diesen Platz nicht mehr abgegeben. Wann war dir klar, dass dieses Ergebnis bis Rom reichen würde? Der Giro d'Italia kann unberechenbar sein und jeder Tag ist eine andere Herausforderung. Obwohl ich schon früh einen Platz auf dem Podium sicher hatte, habe ich nichts als selbstverständlich angesehen. Erst als ich die Ziellinie in Rom überquerte, konnte ich diesen Erfolg feiern. Konstanz war der Schlüssel, und wir haben unsere Konzentration und Entschlossenheit während des gesamten Rennens aufrechterhalten.<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/4_f131207b95.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Wenn du zwei Momente aus den letzten Wochen herausgreifen müsstest: Was war der schlimmste und der beste Giro-Moment? Der schönste Moment für mich war, als ich Zeit auf die anderen Fahrer der Gesamtwertung wie Geraint Thomas gutmachen konnte. Das war eine Bestätigung unserer Strategie und meiner Form. Der schlimmste Moment war, als ich mich an der Schulter verletzte. Das war eine Herausforderung, aber umso befriedigender war es, sie zu überwinden.<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/5_5895f28def.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Gib uns einen kleinen Einblick: Wenn man während des gesamten Giros auf dem Podium steht, bedeutet das auch, von vielen Fahrern und Teams gejagt zu werden. Gab dir diese Situation zusätzliche Motivation oder mehr Druck? Und wie bist du damit umgegangen? Ich genieße den Wettkampf und er spornt mich zu Höchstleistungen an. Zu wissen, dass mehrere Fahrer hinter uns her sind, spornt mich an, meine Leistung jeden Tag zu halten und zu verbessern. Ich habe mich auf das konzentriert, was ich kontrollieren konnte, und den Wettkampf als Motivation und nicht als Druck empfunden.<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/6_991d765429.jpg"></figure>&nbsp;Du bist in der Vergangenheit für ein italienisches Team gefahren und sprichst Italienisch. Hast du eine besondere Verbindung zum italienischen Radsport und den Fans? Hat dir dies zusätzliche Motivation gegeben? Italien hat in meiner frühen Karriere eine große Rolle gespielt und ich schätze den italienischen Motorsport und seine leidenschaftlichen Fans sehr. Die Tatsache, dass ich die Sprache spreche und viele Freunde hier habe, macht diese Erfahrung noch spezieller. From June 3rd - 7th, over a dozen young, promising riders will go head-to-head at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre (APC) in Thalgau, Austria, to compete for a place on the GRENKE - Auto Eder U19 team, along with a Red Bull athlete contract. Daniel Felipe Martinez finishes the 2024 Giro d'Italia in an outstanding second place. It is the first Grand Tour podium of his career. It is only the second Grand Tour podium in the team history of BORA – hansgrohe after Jai Hindley's victory at the Giro d'Italia in 2022. &nbsp; BORA – hansgrohe was on the GC podium after each of the 21 stages of the 2024 Giro d'Italia. Maximilian Schachmann set the tone right at the start in Turin. Just one day later, Dani Martínez replaced him on the podium thanks to a tremendous team performance on the Oropa climb – and held on to the podium consistently until the finish line in Rome.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/sprintcyclingagency_0801554_1_2000px_17af0d655c.jpg"></figure>The 28-year-old Colombian used the time trial to Perugia to climb to second place on day 7. After a week, he swapped places again with Geraint Thomas. But this was just a snapshot. On the queen stage two stages later, Martínez convincingly reclaimed his second place. Jordi Meeus claimed the first stage victory for BORA - hansgrohe at this year’s Tour of Norway. The Belgian won the 173-kilometre-long third stage from Sola to Egersund in a mass sprint. Meeus managed to stay focused during the hectic final kilometres and launched his sprint at the perfect moment. He ultimately outpaced Pavel Bittner and Alexander Kristoff, who finished in second and third place, respectively. This victory marks the 25-year-old’s first stage win since his prestigious triumph on the Champs-Élysées at last year’s Tour de France. The Tour of Norway concludes tomorrow with a hilly stage around Stavanger.<h3>From the finish line</h3>“Winning is always nice. It was a pretty hectic finale – not just in the peloton, but also due to strong crosswinds from the right. Despite the many position battles, I stayed calm and concentrated.
