A very cold good morning in Cape Cod

I built a GPT

Check out the GPT I built around WEDŪ. It’s called The Move Domestique: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-5gZ2kgStF-themove-domestique. Consider it your guide to all things The Move. Let me know what you think.

Developer Conference

In light of the new remote and hybrid work arrangements, I have been contemplating on how the conventional Developer Conference format could be leveraged to enhance productivity in remote teams. My idea is to have a presentation that outlines the key milestones that the team needs to accomplish, followed by a series of collaborative working sessions to plan out the tasks that the team will undertake in the upcoming months or sprints.

Reset+

At Crossfit Bison, we’re doing the annual Reset program. This year it consists of 6 pillars: Nutrition, Hydration, Exercise, Alcohol, Sleep and Mindfulness. I already focus on these a lot, but this reset program is a good excuse to increase focus on them. My main objective is to improve my overall well-being by improving my body composition by dropping 10lbs. I like the program because it increases my motivation and knowing I’ll be held accountable, I’m sure my compliance will be good. The primary thing I’m going to focus on is not snacking and stick to planned meals. I’m already doing everything else. Let’s Go!

Start

Despite all the annual focus on New Year’s resolutions and new gym memberships, I like this time of year because I am energized to think more deeply about my objectives and where I want to focus my time.

I think it’s important to have these moments in our lives where we take a minute to be intentional vs. just being captured by the river we’re floating down in.

When I was an athlete, it was standard practice to look ahead on the competition calendar and pick races to target, and then break up the year into blocks with specific training schedules that were intended to prepare for those targets.

Having successfully transitioned from being a professional athlete to a career (starting at Google in 2003) in the tech industry, I often get the question of how I did it. Well, it’s simple. I applied the same framework and mentality that I had during my time as an athlete to my time at Google, Path, Yahoo, Fair, Goldman Sachs, REEF etc., and so far, it’s worked out pretty well.

So, every year in January, I look ahead and choose my targets which are essentially the key deliverables to achieving my annual objectives.

I love this approach because I truly enjoy the road to the objectives almost as much as I like achieving them.

Today was one of those days where I had zero desire to workout and I just showed up and did it and it all worked out.

For 2024 I’m planning to post more here. If for no other reason than to create a log of what I’m up to. Here we go!

In this photo, Cole and I went to our local MTB spot in The Sterling Forest. The trails are super technical and hard! So much fun!!!!

Let’s get ready for 2024!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
