The World Championships in 2023 will be taking place in Scotland, more specifically with the city of Glasgow hosting the main events for the Worlds. From the 3rd to 13th of August the region will host events from many different disciplines in what is termed 'super' World Championships, and some routes have been revealed.
The time-trials will be taking place in the city of Stirling nearby the country's two main cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. The latter, being the capital of Scotland, will host the start of the men's Elite Road Race which is set to be the largest event of the week. Simultaneously, the announcement revealed that the men's under-23 and the women's Elite road races will begin in Loch Lomond, in the outskirts of Glasgow. All Road Races and the Mixed Relay Time-Trial will have their finale in Glasgow itself.
“With less than a year to go until the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, it is fantastic to be able to visualise the road races for the Elite and Under 23 categories," UCI President David Lappartient said in a press release. "The spectacular and challenging routes will guarantee the show that the organisers had promised us. The athletes now have a clear vision of what awaits them in the battle for the rainbow jersey next year.”
The event will be taking place in early August next year, following the Tour de France and coming before the Vuelta a Espana, which will add another layer of unknown into the race as it slots in to a different spot in the calendar.
