Gino Mäder uses Vuelta a Espana and glaciers as a way to inspire and donate towards fight against climate change

The Vuelta a Espana is one of cycling's most reputable and important races of the season, but also one with a lot of exposure, which some riders use for their own projects. Gino Mäder is one of them, as he will be donating money towards the fight against climate change in a peculiar way.

Having shared on social media, the glacier-filled Switzerland native has said that he would donate 1CHF for every rider that finishes behind him throughout the stages of the Vuelta a Espana. This resembles a project that Euskaltel-Euskadi's Luis Ángel Maté will be doing throughout the race as he looks to reforest a section of the Spanish Mediterranean coast.

The Swiss said that so far this season he has had a total of 3341 riders finish behind him throughout the stages in the year, and that number will raise throughout the Vuelta a Espana - aswell as other races he may do in the closing month of the season.

Mäder is entering the Vuelta a Espana as one of the leaders for Bahrain - Victorious, with Mikel Landa claiming to be far from his best form, and no clear hints being given by Santiago Buitrago and Wout Poels regarding their ambitions.
