Egan Bernal has had a dream start to 2025. For the first time since 2021 and his since his life-threatening crash, he won a race... Two actually, as he became Colombian national champion both on the time-trial and road race. Today he made his European season debut and looked in great form, but a crash has turned this dream into a nightmare.

AS Colombia has confirmed that inside the final 30 kilometers of today's race, in which Bernal's teammate Michal Kwiatkowski took the win, crashed and has suffered a collarbone fracture. It is a very painful day for fans of the Colombian climber who has looked very strong during the race, attacking several times and being part of the team's victory tactic.

UPDATE

The Spanish race has released a video of the fall that featured the rider in the white jersey. As Isaac del Toro attacked the final kilometers, the small group went through a downhill section that featured a narrow chicane. It would appear that the narrowing of the road led to a sudden breaking, and Bernal lost traction. Whilst the footage is largely hindered by the trees, it is fully possibly to see Bernal sliding several meters through the gravel road before coming to a stop.

This poor guy can't catch a break, if anything, at least it's very early so he can recover. I'm hoping he does and has a great season.

Well that truly sucks. Especially as he's been on such good form so far this year.
